Sunday nights should always be about live music with good company in exceptional surroundings. This is why we are so pleased to be bringing Jeff Lang to Noa Bakehouse on Sunday 30th April 2017 for a one night only event.

As a live performer Jeff Lang is only satisfied when something truly inspired and inspiring takes place. This restless striving for the sublime pays great dividends for audiences that join him for the ride.

As a singer-songwriter he has built up a reputation for startlingly original performances, working without a set list, allowing the unique energy of each night to shape the songs.

Jeff is universally acclaimed as a truly great guitar player. The unusual thing is that the guitar playing never gets in the way of the music, nor overshadows his gift for hauntingly poetic songwriting.

“In a world where music is diluted by money and plasticine, give thanks that Jeff Lang is out there… He paints pictures in sound.” Beat Magazine

His career spans 25 years and as many albums. He describes his music as “Disturbed Folk” … and nobody who has heard songs like “Newman Town” (from “Half Seas Over”), I’m Barely There (from “Carried In Mind”) or “Burnside” from his latest album (“Alone In Bad Company”) could argue with that as these songs come from the dark side of the human experience.

While Lang will talk of his admiration for the elemental blues of Skip James, the raw gospel of Blind Willie Johnson, the devastating guitar work of Jimi Hendrix, the masterful slide guitar of Ry Cooder, and the sublime songwriting of Bob Dylan and Richard Thompson, comparisons to these artists fails to paint an adequate picture.

“Lang’s music is as fiercely original as it is moving.” Guitar Player Magazine

He has toured with legends like Ani Di Franco, Chris Whitley, Albert Collins, Bob Dylan, Loudon Wainwright III, Richard Thompson, Greg Brown, Kelly Joe Phelps, Dr. John and Bob Geldof. Meanwhile his unique musical vision easily finds a home in myriad venues, from a large festival stage to a small Manx coffee shop, from a record shop basement to the Sydney Opera House. Jeff is a multiple ARIA award winner (Australia’s equivalent of a Grammy) including 2012’s best Blues and Roots Music album “Carried In Mind” – and 2010’s best World Music Album for “Djan Djan”, Jeff’s collaboration with Mamadou Diabate and Bobby Singh.
“We’re treated to moody atmospheric textures, ripping electric lap-steel riffs, delicate acoustic picking, trippy backwards leads, oddball percussion, throbbing tremolo, and unconventional lyrics – all of which Lang blends like some crazed sonic alchemist.” Andy Ellis, Guitar Player Magazine, USA

Jeff Lang has achieved what is a rarity in the cluttered world of contemporary sounds: his own voice.

“Is he…rock…blues…country…folk…from Mars? No, actually he’s all of the above – if not quite extraterrestrial – and a lot more…a one of a kind.” The Australian
